Privacy Policy
This page explains what brightTV collects about you, why we collect it, who sees it and what you can do about it.
You can watch every video without signing in. We collect more only when you sign in or choose to tell us something.
Draft of 4 October 2026
Draft for legal review. Not yet in force.
Words in [square brackets] are still to be filled in.
Who we are
brightTV is run by [Company legal name] (ABN [ABN]). In this policy, "we" and "us" means [Company legal name].
brightTV comes free with your [Catalogue partner name] catalogue. [Catalogue partner name] is a separate business with its own privacy policy for your catalogue orders.
How to reach us about privacy

- By post: Privacy Officer, [Company legal name], [Postal address]
What we collect
We collect as little as we can. In short:
- your phone number, or your customer number and postcode, so you can sign in
- which videos you watch and where you're up to
- on which days you practise a class, and for how many minutes
- the practice days you choose in My week
- who your friends on brightTV are, if you add any, and what you choose to share with them
- the groups you join or start, if any
- the classes and stories you keep for later, and your choices if you ask us to remember them
- how you would like to be reminded, if you ask for reminders
- your settings, such as text size
- answers you choose to give us, such as your age group
We never keep anything about your health: if we ask "How do you feel today?" before a class, your answer is not kept. We never ask for a password, your bank or card details, or your Medicare number.
When you sign in
Your mobile or home phone number. We check it by sending a code by text, or by calling you and reading the code out.
Or, if you have no mobile, your catalogue customer number and your postcode. We check them against the customer list the catalogue business gives us.
A name, if you or a family helper give one (for example "Mum"). We do not ask for your address or date of birth. We ask for an email address only if you choose practice reminders by email, or if you are a family helper who wants the weekly summary.
When you watch and look around
- which videos you start and finish, and where you stopped
- which pages you visit, and when
- whether you press our phone number, a catalogue product or an ad
- the kind of device you use (phone, tablet, computer or TV) and your web browser
- the catalogue, magazine or letter code you came from, if you scanned one (for example XMAS26-CAT)
When you practise a class
For each day, we keep a total: whether you practised a class that day and for how many minutes. A day counts once you have practised for 5 minutes. Stories never count. This daily total does not say which class you did.
We use it to show you "days this week" on My account and how many minutes you moved at the end of a class. Your minutes are shown only to you.
We also note, for each class you do, whether you reached the end, so we can move you on to the next day of your path.
"How did that feel?"
After a class we may ask "How did that feel?". You can choose Just right, A bit easy or A bit much, or skip the question. If you answer, we keep your answer with that class. There is no box to type in.
We use the answers to make our classes better. Family helpers, advertisers and the catalogue business never see them.
My week
If you choose your practice days in My week, we keep which days you chose and whether your week is paused. We use them to put the right class on your home page and to say "Today is one of your practice days". We work out which class comes next from the classes you have finished. We do not keep a record of days you missed.
Friends
If you add friends on brightTV, we keep who your friends are, the friend requests you send and receive, and when each one started and ended. We also keep anyone you block, and the reason you chose if you report someone.
We keep the kind words you send and receive. You choose them from three set phrases, such as "Well done". There is nowhere to write your own words.
For each friend we keep your choices: whether they can see your practice, and whether they can send you kind words. We also keep whether you are "Taking a rest".
You add a friend with their friend code. Adding a friend never earns a voucher or any other reward.
We may offer Friends to some catalogue customer groups before others. We use the customer group from the catalogue business to decide.
Your choices and the things you keep
If you answer "Help me choose" and then say yes to "Remember these choices?", we keep your choices: what you would like to do, how long, and standing or in a chair (for stories, the kind of story and how long). We also keep the words you saw when you said yes. Nothing is kept unless you say yes. You can change your choices, or choose "Forget my choices" in My things to delete them.
We keep the classes and stories you choose to "Keep for later" (up to 50), until you remove them.
"Watched recently" in My things shows what you watched in the last 30 days. It comes from where you are up to in each video, which we keep anyway (see "When you watch and look around"). "Remove from this list" hides a video from the list; we keep your place in it so you can carry on.
We use these only to choose classes and stories for you and to show them back to you. We never use them to choose ads, and we never give them to advertisers or the catalogue business. Family helpers, friends and groups see none of them.
"How do you feel today?"
Before a class on one of your practice days, we may ask "How do you feel today?". You can skip it, or turn the question off in My week. We use your answer only on that screen, to suggest a gentler or shorter class. We do not keep your answer, on our computers or on your device. We count only whether the question was answered or skipped.
Reminders
If you ask for practice reminders, we keep how you would like them (by email or by text), the time you chose, and the email address you give us for them. If you ask for a text about kind words, we keep that choice too. Texts go to the mobile number you sign in with.
Keepsakes and certificates
When you reach something worth remembering, such as your first practice or the end of a 30-day path, we keep a note of what it was and the date. Keepsakes are only for you: friends, groups and family helpers never see them.
A certificate shows your name only if you choose it. We make it from what we already keep; printing it does not send us anything new.
Groups
If you join or start a group, we keep which groups you are in, who looks after each one, requests to join and when each one started and ended, the group's name and weekly goal, and the group code while it works (7 days).
For each group we keep whether you chose to count your practice days in it. We work out the group's total from the same daily totals as your own "days this week".
Your settings and choices
Your text size, whether the next video plays by itself, whether the shapes on the pages move, and whether we ask "How do you feel today?".
Each time you say yes to something, we keep a record of it: what you agreed to, when, where, and the exact words you saw. This covers offers by text, practice reminders by text or email, texts about kind words, sharing your progress with family helpers, what your friends can see, counting your days in a group, and passing your details to an advertiser. When you change your mind, we record that too.
About you (only if you choose)
On My account you can tell us your age group and your postcode. We work out your state from your postcode. You can skip these questions, and you can choose "Forget my answers" at any time.
If you sign in with your customer number, we take your postcode from the catalogue customer list.
Friend codes
Your friend code, who used it, and whether each friend has watched a video. To send your voucher, we also keep your customer number, or the last 4 digits of your phone number.
Family helpers
Who helps whom, and when that started and ended. We also keep a record of every change a helper makes for you: who made it, what changed and when.
Ads and "Ask them to call me"
When an ad appears on your screen, we record that it was shown, whether it was on screen long enough to be seen, and whether you pressed it.
If you fill in "Ask them to call me", we keep your name, your phone number, the best time to call and which business it was for.
Some ads have their own phone number. If you call it, we record the time and how long the call lasted, and a scrambled code made from your number. We never keep your number itself, and nobody records what is said.
When you contact us
If you send us a message or ask us to call you back, we keep your message, the page you were on and your phone number.
To keep brightTV safe
To stop people misusing sign-in codes, we keep scrambled codes made from internet addresses and phone numbers for a short time. We use them only to count how many times something was tried.
From the catalogue business
[Catalogue partner name] gives us its customer list so that customer number sign-in works. For each customer it holds the customer number, postcode, customer group, date of last order, and scrambled codes made from the phone number and email address. It holds no names, street addresses, phone numbers or email addresses.
Why we collect it
- to sign you in and keep you signed in on your device
- to remember your place and your settings
- to run friend codes and send your vouchers
- to let family helpers help you, only in the ways you allow
- to choose which classes, stories, products and ads to show you
- to choose today's practice and story on the home page, and tell you why
- to count your practice days and minutes, for you
- to put your planned practice on your home page, on the days you choose
- to show your friends what you choose to share with them, and to keep Friends safe from nuisance and scams
- to run the groups you join, and show each group the total you agree to count
- to send the practice reminders and texts you ask for, and nothing else
- to count how many people see each ad, so advertisers pay for brightTV
- to fix problems, answer your questions and keep brightTV safe
We may use your age group, your state, your device, the time of day and whether you watch more classes or more stories to choose what to show you. We never guess anything about your health.
How we choose today's practice and story
The home page shows one class and one story, with a short line saying why we chose them. We use simple rules, in this order: the class or story you are part way through, the next step after one you finished, what our team has chosen for the day, and a gentle place to start.
The only thing we take from your watching is where you are up to. We do not use what you watch to guess what you like, and we never guess anything about your health.
You can choose "Show me another" up to 3 times a day. We keep the list of today's suggestions for that day, so the page stays the same if you come back later.
If you asked us to remember your choices from "Help me choose", we also use them, and the line under the class says so (for example "Picked because you like stretching in a chair, for about 10 minutes."). Your own path still comes first.
Practice reminders and texts about kind words
We send a practice reminder by email or text, or a text when a friend sends you kind words, only if you tick a separate box for it. It is never ticked for you, and you never need it to use brightTV.
You get at most one practice reminder a day, only on your practice days, at the time you chose: 8 am, 9 am, 10 am or 4 pm, Sydney time. Texts about kind words come at most once a day, at 10 am. We send nothing while your week is paused or while you are "Taking a rest".
Each one says it is from brightTV and how to stop. They never include offers, and our texts never include a link. To stop, reply STOP to a text, use the link in an email, change it on My week or Who sees what, or call us. We stop straight away.
Offers by text
We send offers by text only if you tick the box that says yes. Ticking it is never needed to use brightTV.
Every offer says who it is from and how to stop. You can also stop at any time: on My account, turn off "Send me catalogue offers by text", or call us.
Sign-in codes and messages about your account are not offers. We send those whether or not you tick the box, and they never include offers.
If you would rather not give us your details
You can watch every video without signing in. Without signing in we cannot remember your place on other devices, send you a voucher or let a family helper help you.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in the ways below.
Companies that help us run brightTV
They may use your information only to provide their service to us.
- Amazon Web Services, in Sydney: runs our website and database, stores files and sends our emails
- Mux: streams the videos to your screen
- Twilio: sends sign-in codes by text or phone call, texts about family helpers, and the reminder and kind-word texts you ask for
- Cloudflare: protects the website and makes it load faster
- Sentry: tells us when something on the website goes wrong
The catalogue business
When you or a friend earn a voucher, we send [Catalogue partner name] what it needs to send the voucher: your customer number, or the last 4 digits of your phone number and your brightTV account number, the voucher amount and the date you earned it. [Catalogue partner name] tells us when the voucher has been sent.
We do not give [Catalogue partner name] what you watch.
Advertisers
An advertiser gets your name, phone number and best time to call only when you fill in "Ask them to call me" and tick the box. You tick it each time, for that one business. We send the details by email.
Otherwise advertisers get only totals, such as how many people saw their ad. They never get your name, your number or what you watch. Any group of fewer than 50 people is left out of their reports.
Family helpers
See "Family helpers: what they can and can't see" below.
Your friends
A friend sees your first name and the first letter of your last name, for example "Margaret W.". Nothing else, unless you say yes.
If you turn it on, your friends can see that you practised today, or how many days you practised this week, or both. Both are off until you turn them on, and each has its own switch. You can hide your practice from one friend, and they won't be told. You can turn on "Taking a rest", and no friend sees anything.
Friends never see what you watch, how many minutes you practised, what time you practised, anything about stories, your other friends or your phone number. When you have not practised, they see nothing at all, the same as when you are not sharing or are taking a rest.
We never use your friends, or what your friends can see, to choose ads. We never give them to advertisers or the catalogue business. Family helpers cannot see your friends.
If you block or report someone, our call centre staff can see the report so they can look into it. The other person is never told who blocked or reported them.
Your groups
Everyone in a group sees the first name and the first letter of the last name of everyone else in it, and who looks after the group.
If you turn on "Count my practice days in this group", your practice days are added to the group's weekly total, and your name is listed under "Practised this week" in a week you practised. Nobody in the group, including the person who looks after it, sees how many days are yours, what you watch, for how long or when. When it is off, or you are taking a rest, the group sees only your name, the same as for anyone who had a quiet week.
The person who looks after a group sees requests to join, and can say yes, say no or remove someone. Nobody is told why.
We never use your groups to choose ads, and we never give them to advertisers or the catalogue business. Family helpers cannot see your groups.
How many people practised today
If you have no friends on brightTV yet, the Friends page may say about how many people practised a class today, rounded to the nearest 10. It is a total for everyone, never names. We do not show it when fewer than 50 people practised.
When the law says we must
We give information to police, courts or government bodies only when the law requires or allows it.
Information that leaves Australia
Our database is in Sydney. Some companies that help us are based overseas, so some information leaves Australia.
- Twilio handles your phone number and our text messages and calls. [Countries where the text message service handles messages]
- Mux receives information about the video player: which video, your internet address and your kind of device. It does not receive your name or phone number. [Countries where the video service keeps viewing data]
- Sentry receives reports when something goes wrong. These reports are not meant to hold your details. [Country where error reports are stored]
- Cloudflare runs a worldwide network. Your internet address passes through it when you visit.
How long we keep it
- Sign-in codes: deleted after about a day. A code a family helper sends you works for 3 days, then is deleted.
- Staying signed in: 6 months from your last visit. Records of signed-out devices are deleted 30 days later.
- Records used to stop misuse: 2 days.
- Where you are up to in each video: for as long as you have an account.
- Your daily practice totals: [How long we keep daily practice totals].
- Your answers to "How did that feel?": for as long as you have an account.
- Today's suggestions for you: [How long we keep today's suggestions].
- Your practice days in My week: for as long as you have an account.
- Kind words sent between friends: 90 days.
- A friendship or a friend request that has ended: 30 days after it ended. A request nobody answers ends after 14 days.
- Someone you blocked: for as long as you have an account.
- Reports about someone: 2 years, so we can keep people safe.
- Your choices from "Help me choose": until you choose "Forget my choices".
- Classes and stories you keep for later: until you remove them.
- Your answer to "How do you feel today?": not kept at all.
- Your reminder settings and the email address for reminders: until you turn reminders off, then 30 days.
- Keepsakes: for as long as you have an account.
- Your place in a group: while you are in it, then 30 days. A request to join that nobody answers ends after 14 days. A group code works for 7 days.
- Records of the videos you played and the pages you visited: 24 months.
- Records of ads shown and pressed: 24 months.
- "Ask them to call me" details: our copy of your name and phone number is deleted after 90 days.
- An account a family helper set up that you never signed in to: deleted after 30 days.
- Calls to an ad's phone number: [How long we keep call records].
- Messages you send us: [How long we keep messages you send us].
- Records of what you agreed to: [How long we keep consent records].
- Your account: until you ask us to delete it.
What happens when you ask us to delete your account
Within 30 days we remove your phone number, customer number, name and postcode. We also remove the name and phone number from any "Ask them to call me" request and from any message you sent us, delete your daily practice totals, your answers to "How did that feel?" and your My week days, and sign you out everywhere.
We also end all your friendships without telling anyone, and delete your friend requests, the kind words you sent and received, and the list of people you blocked. If someone else blocked or reported you, we keep that record for 2 years, without your name or phone number, so we can keep people safe.
We also delete your choices, the things you kept for later, your keepsakes and your reminder settings, and take you out of every group without telling anyone. If you looked after a group, the person who joined first after you looks after it.
We keep your age group and state, with nothing that links them to you, so our totals stay correct. A record that a voucher was sent stays, without your details, because the catalogue business needs it.
An advertiser that already received your details keeps its own copy. Ask that business to delete it.

How to ask
Call us on 1800 160 401. Monday to Friday, 8 am to 6 pm, Sydney time. Or email [Privacy email address], or write to [Postal address].
We check that it's really you first, for example by sending a code to your phone. We'll answer within 30 days. It's free.
If you're not happy with how we handled your information
Please tell us first, so we can put it right. We'll answer within 30 days.
If you are still not happy, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC). Call 1300 363 992 or visit oaic.gov.au.
Family helpers: what they can and can't see
A family helper is someone you choose, such as a son or daughter, who helps you from their own phone.
- A helper can change your text size, whether the next video plays by itself, and whether the shapes on the pages move.
- A helper sees three numbers only if you turn on "Share my progress with my helpers": how many days you practised this week, how many class days you have finished, and the date you last practised. If you choose, they can get a weekly email with the same three numbers.
- A helper never sees what you watch, how many minutes you practised, or your answers to "How did that feel?".
- A helper cannot change your phone number, say yes to offers for you, pass your details to an advertiser or use friend codes for you.
- A helper cannot see your friends or your kind words, add or remove friends for you, or change what your friends can see. The weekly email has no news about your friends.
- A helper cannot see your groups, My things, your choices, your keepsakes or your reminders, and cannot join a group, turn on reminders or say yes to texts for you.
You see every change a helper makes under "Recent changes by your helpers" on My account. You can remove a helper at any time. They lose access straight away. If you have a mobile, we send you a text to confirm.
If a family helper set up brightTV for you
Until you sign in for the first time, your helper can only change your settings. They cannot see any numbers. If you never sign in, we delete the account after 30 days.
Cookies and this device
A cookie is a small note a website keeps on your device. We use four cookies, all our own. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies from other companies.
- "sid" keeps you signed in. It lasts 6 months and renews when you visit.
- "anon_id" is a random number that tells us the same device came back. We use it to count visits and ads seen, and to stop misuse. It lasts 1 year.
- "text_size" remembers your text size. It lasts 1 year.
- "motion" remembers whether the shapes on the pages move. It lasts 1 year.
Other things kept on this device
Your web browser also keeps a few things on your device: where you are up to in a video before you sign in, whether subtitles are on, copies of your text size and moving shapes settings, and a random number for each visit. Your place in a video is sent to us when you sign in, so you can carry on.
If you block cookies you can still watch, but you will not stay signed in.
Keeping your information safe
We keep your information in Sydney and send it over secure connections. You sign in with a code, so there's no password to steal. Staff see only what their job needs, and we keep a record whenever staff look at or change your account. Our system records show only the last 4 digits of phone numbers.
If a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we will tell you and the OAIC, as the law requires.
We will never ask for your bank details by phone, text or email. If someone does, hang up and call us.
Changes to this policy
This policy starts on [Date this starts]. If we make an important change, we'll put a note on the home page before it starts. The date at the top always shows the latest version.
